Royal Wedding: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Just under six months after the engagement announcement, Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle came to the altar on Saturday, May 19. Check out what happened on this great real day.

The royal wedding and the guests

The wedding took place on the 19th of this month, in St. George's Chapel, in Windsor Castle. The ceremony began at noon in England (8 am GMT), gathering 600 guests. Among the people present were the most important figures of the British monarchy, such as Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Prince William, family members of Meghan and friends of the couple.

Some of these friends: Jessica Mulroney, the bride's best friend; Patrick J. Adams, Suits castmate; Amal and George Clooney; tennis player Serena Williams; actor Tom Hardy and Victoria and David Beckham.

The handmaids and pageants were handpicked: six handmaids were chosen to accompany the royal couple, including Princess Charlotte, 3, daughter of Kate Middleton and Prince William, who went to the altar with the bride and groom as she did at the wedding. from his maternal aunt Pippa. Among the four pages were Prince George, 4, Charlotte's brother. After the ceremony, the couple went on a parade through Windsor village, then headed for lunch.

Offered by the queen, the prince's grandmother. Overnight, the couple headed for the party.

Royal Wedding Protocol

The guests were given an instruction book of what they could and could not do on the day: seven pages with indications as restrictions on what to bring to the wedding (with swords and medals). All phones, cameras and any devices that could be used for photos were prohibited. It was also forbidden to bring gifts to the ceremony site because the couple asked anyone who wanted to make gifts to donate to one of the seven charities chosen.

Speaking of rules, Meghan did differently in her marriage: In English ceremonies it is tradition for the bride to say, “love, cherish and obey”, but Meghan chose to say “love and cherish” ( love and care). This is because the former actress is a feminist and UN Women's representative.

Kate Middleton also did not speak of obedience in her marriage to William in 2011. The tradition began with Lady Di. Meghan didn't go in with his father either: according to some reports, he would have agreed to be photographed by a paparazzo in exchange for payment. After the controversy, the ex-priest asked her father-in-law, Prince Charles, to lead her to the altar. She entered the chapel alone and he met her halfway.

The premarriage

Last night before the wedding, Meghan and mother Doria Ragland stayed at the Cliveden House Hotel at Cliveden Estate in Taplow, 10 miles from the wedding venue.

This is a royal family rule: the night before the ceremony, the couple sleep in separate hotels in the Windsor area. Harry was 15 miles away at the Dorchester Collection's Coworth Park in Ascot with his godfather and brother, William.

The postmarriage

The couple will now live in Kensington Palace, being neighbors of Kate Middleton and Prince William.
